FAQS:
What
if I never have exercised before getting pregnant and delivery of
my baby? I'm not even sure I HAVE abdominal muscles!
Many women feel
this way, especially after the weight gain and toll the pregnancy
has on a body! The Ab recovery class is designed to teach moms about
their anatomy, what happens to their bodies during pregnancy, and
what to do to get on the right track!
I have been doing
sit-ups since having my baby, and nothing is helping!
In the Ab recovery class,
you'll learn why sit-ups are the #1 "no-no" to a postpartum
mom!
Are the abdominal
muscles the only thing you cover in the class?
The majority of the emphasis
is on the abdominal wall and its function in protecting the major
organs and back. The pelvic floor and other musculature strengthening
and stretching exercises focus on those areas affected by pregnancy.
What if I had
a C-Section?
Your abdominal muscles
may have still been affected by pregnancy hormones, as well as other
musculature (pelvic floor, back
). This class also offers tips
on scar mobilization.
I've had multiple
children, is it too late to get my abdominals in order if I haven't
paid them any attention until now?!
Absolutely! Of course it
is easier to "train" your muscles to go back the way they
once were earlier ("muscle memory") before they get "comfortable/set-in-their-ways!"
But it is never to soon to start the road to recovery!
How soon can
I come to the Abdominal Postpartum class?
Doctor's/Caregiver's consent
is a must! If you've had a C-section, they need to "approve"
your healing. The beginning of the session is anatomy and not much
exercise. Check with your Doctor or Caregiver and make sure you're
ready! *: If you need assistance obtaining your consent, please contact
the Healthy Moms® office-we're happy to help. *No drop-ins , or
make-ups accepted in this class! It is a progressive session! We grow
in knowledge and experience together! So please sign up at the start
of a session!
I hear Pilates
is the "latest/greatest"! Why don't you offer it to prenatal?
Today, "Pilates"
has become a relative term. Traditional "mat" exercises
(those without equipment) focus on prone (lying on stomach) and supine
(lying on back) exercises which should not be performed after the
1st Trimester. Even postnatal, there are a lot of exercises that place
emphasis on the abdominal wall and rotation. Often this can lead to
further abdominal "separation"(Diastisis Recti), especially
in nursing moms. The arm, chest, and leg (pilates) exercises are suitable.
It is recommended to have some one-on-one personal training sessions
with a certified instructor with pre/postnatal experience!
Should I eat
before class?
We ask that you eat a light meal, or snack, about an hour, or two,
before the start of class.
What should I
bring to drink to class?
Be sure to bring a full water bottle with you. We will take water
breaks during class. Staying well-hydrated is especially important
if you are nursing.
Can I just show up for class when Im ready
to start?
No. You must first contact Healthy Moms®, either by phone at 919-781-MOMS (6667) or by e-mail (info@healthymomsnc.com) to schedule your orientation and confirm written consent from your OB or midwife.
Do I need
written consent from my OB or midwife to participate in your programs?
Yes, for most moms. If you are less than three months postpartum and
new to Healthy Moms®, you must obtain written consent from your
doctor or midwife. If you need assistance obtaining your consent,
please contact the Healthy Moms®officewere happy to
help.
Will my instructor
be certified in pre- and postnatal fitness?
Yes! All Healthy Moms®instructors are Certified Perinatal Fitness
Instructors. Many have additional fitness certifications, as well.
Your Postpartum Ab Recovery/Intro to Pilates instructors, for example,
are certified as Pilates instructors. (To learn more about your instructors
qualifications, see About Us on this website.)
